Their Next Begins Now!

Last week it was great to watch many of our student athletes commit to their school of choice. Every time one of our students makes a decision about what is next for them after school we all win. It is an amazing time to watch them with their family making such a positive and productive choice with their future. Hopefully one day they can come back and give back to the Garland community.

Just a few minutes ago (at time of print) I had the opportunity to share with our counseling team their latest award. They were recognized at the Texas School Counseling Association as a Crest Award winner for the 3rd consecutive year. Because this is their 3rd consecutive year they were elevated to Lone Star status. One of only 3 in the entire state of Texas. We are fortunate to have a great group of counselor at Naaman!

We are currently in 2nd with our Seniors in the district FAFSA race. If you have Seniors please encourage them to complete the FAFSA. Sure we want to win, but we want them to get money for college. The only way they can unlock much needed money for college is to complete the FAFSA. Use the good relationships you have with them to take care of this much needed Senior task.

Do not forget that you have one last day to call a parent and invite them to parent conferences. If you have a student that may need some extra help visiting face to face with his/her parent could help them tremendously. I have found that 100% of parents want to help you with their child. They want the same thing for their child, for them to come to school and work hard and learn each day. So think of those students that could benefit the most from a parent meeting. You will not regret it.

Spring sports are in full swing! Stay up to date with Soccer, Track and Field, Golf, Tennis, Baseball, Softball, and Powerlifting. They all have meets, and games each week and our students love to see you in the stands cheering them on. I know you can’t make them all, but designate a few times to come out and support them. Our student athletes work so hard and represent us well each time.

What will you do this week in your classroom to ensure that your students are engaged. Will you utilize turn and talk to facilitate meaningful learning conversation between your students? Will you have students group up and create an anchor chart based on what you lectured over? Will you utilize a gallery walk that has various topics around the room that allows students to share their thoughts on the topic based off of a teacher facilitated mini-lesson? Whichever way you choose to engage is cool, just spend time planning to engage your learners.

Do not forget to have fun!

Go Rangers!
