I knew her my whole life, but I had never experienced anything like this. It was fast-paced, high energy, and down right crazy at times.
I’m talking about my Aunt Mary’s 5th grade classroom. Honestly, you had to be there to experience it. I can see vividly the many things we did in that classroom that I still remember today. For instance, the parts of speech rap…It went something like “Learn these facts and the parts of speech, and they’ll make more sense when your teachers teach!” Lol! I can remember the class spelling bee where speed was just as important as spelling the word correctly. Again, you had to be there to experience it. Then you cant forget about her writing grading scale: It wasn’t just 0-4, but she included “6” in it. If you got a “6” well, I’m not sure if anyone even got one of those. It was the worst grade you could get. Let’s not forget about learning every detail about hyperbole, onomatopoeia, similes, metaphors, and personification, all while building the largest ginger bread homes known to men. I’m telling you we did it all in that class. One thing about Aunt Mary’s class we all knew…you were going to learn and it was going to be fun and exciting each and everyday. I am thankful that I had her as a teacher and how she helped me grow. Hopefully some of my classmates will add to this post. Thank you Aunt Mary for being a great teacher! #thankateacher
Oh my goodness!! There was nothing like it and I’m pretty sure I will not see anything like it again!! I agree…you just had to be there. How some of us left without scars for life is beyond me!
Thanks for reading!
She was one of a kind. She needs a school to teach teachers how to teach! We need you Mrs. Mary. Love it Herbert!
I agree Marsha! It was special. Thanks for responding!
