How It Should be Done!

This morning I had the opportunity to hang out with students from Life School-Red Oak Secondary.  It was a great experience!  I was fortunate to hang out with an Engineering class.  I will tell you right now that I was blown away by what I witnessed.  It was great to see students take ownership in their learning.  The students were able to talk about what they had learned and how they applied their learning to create a “mousetrap” race car.  The teacher, who was simply facilitating the learning process used a rubric to assess the projects that the students had created.  As you will notice in the video to follow there was a lot of discussion going on in the learning space.  All of the conversation that was taking place (100%) was totally about the ins and outs of their “mousetrap” race cars.

I’ve seen lot’s of great lessons.  It was just great to see these young men love what they were learning!  One thing I am really noticing about our students’ generation is that they are not shy in front of a camera.  You rarely see students place their hands over their face when a camera (phone) is placed in front of them.  All of the students that I interviewed were comfortable on the fly.  Most all of the students wanted to be featured.  It’s crazy that simply because they are digital natives they welcome being filmed.  Wow!

Please see the video below of the young man explaining the project he created and a video of his project taking a drive!
