Yeah that’s right we have prom this week! This is always a big week for many of our students. When I think of prom I think back on the days of prom at Hearne High School. Back in the day we had our prom at the College Station Hilton and that was a big deal for us…had to throw that in. Just like you were excited they’ll be excited as well. Had a conversation with some of our star AVID senior students who showed me their prom checklist. So much careful planning has gone into her whole setup. We all have to admit that prom was sort of lame compared to how they go all out now. We have to remember to also take time out to speak to the students about safety at the before and after prom. Sometimes young people get so excited about the day that they allow others to talk them into making a bad choice. Prom should be fun as well as safe.
We have one more week before we take another round of STAAR tests. Information in regards to testing will be forthcoming.
I had the opportunity this past week to attend the AVID Senior celebration. It was a great time. Our students looked great and represented The Forest in a great way. Mrs. Arango and all of the AVID teachers have done a great job with them. We also had a great AVID recertification visit this week.
I also got to hang out with our teacher of the year, Vanessa Lopez, at the district Teacher of the Year recognition. We are fortunate to have us represent us among all the other great teachers at The Forest.
This week we also had our students from AP Seminar do their end of the year presentations. I know each of you already know this, but we have some super talented students at The Forest. So proud of all of the AP Seminar students.
I was able to finish the week hanging out with our Special Olympics athletes. They had their big day on Friday at Williams Stadium. So many of our students performed in a great way and many came away with medals. Go Rangers!
Shout out to DA McCartney on qualifying for the state track and field meet two years in a row. He will be representing The Forest in the 300 meter hurdles.
Shout out to the girls 4X200 meter relay for setting a school record at Regionals. Wow.
Another shout out to our baseball team. They will start playoffs this week. They will face Jesuit Thursday and Friday at 7:30 pm at Jesuit. If a Saturday game is necessary they will play at 12:00 pm.
